Each god governs a different aspect of human life based on their attributes, which is why each direction and part holds importance in the Vastu Shastra. Of the 45 gods, 32 are located in the outer portion and 13 in the inner portion of the Vastu Purusha Mandal. This combination of the Vastu Purush and the 45 gods is referred to as the "Vastu Purush Mandal." The Mandal comprises 81 parts, each of which symbolizes the name of a god that holds the Vastu Purush to the earth in its designated area. It is believed that if the Vastu Purush is able to rest comfortably on the property, he will bring happiness, peace, and prosperity to the lives of those who reside there.Īccording to belief, all gods maintain their presence on the Vastu Purush, which is thought to be accompanied by the 45 gods in every part of the earth. The Vastu pooja ceremony is performed to appease Vastu Purush and ensure that the construction of the home or commercial property is in line with the principles of Vastu shastra. Whenever a new home, building, or factory is built or purchased, a Vastu pooja ceremony is performed. Naval part of the demon is imagined to be coinciding with the centre point of the land and is called ‘Brahma Sthan’ the most auspicious space. The majority of people in India place great significance on Vastu shastra when making any real estate transactions, and the concept of Vastu Purush is a crucial aspect to comprehend for gaining an understanding of Vastu shastra. His feet and soles are joined and are pointing jointly towards South-West direction. His knees are touching the elbows and are pointing the directions of the elbows only. The elbows point towards North-West and South East direction respectively. The direction allotted to the land and their utility represented by the body parts of the demon. Vastu Purusha is a man lying with his back upside and bent and his head pointing North and East respectively. In return the Vastu Purusha also promised to take care of the inmates of the house or the occupants of the land. After the above incident Vastu Purush prayed to Bramha Dev for mercy in return Lord Bramha blessed him and proclaimed that the construction on the earth will only be successful when the Vastu Purusha will be worshipped and respected. Accordingly 45 devtas hold this Vastu Purush putting his face down and lying on earth from North East to South West. Bramhs advised Devtas to overpower this demon and press him down (face down) into the earth and hold him there. Out of the sweat of Lord Shiva this Vastu purush came into form, immediately after his birth he started devouring anything and everything that came in his way due to which Devtas were very much afraid and prayed to Bramha for help. During this battle Lord Shiva perspired heavily. Finally Lord Shiva fought a battle with Andhakasura and killed him. There is a mythology concerning the birth of Vastu Purusha according to which Andhakasura a very powerful giant (Rakshasa) had terrorized the Devtas. So we should know who this Vastu purusha is. The name “Vastu Purusha” is closely connected with the Vastu Shastra and every now and then we use this name in all the ‘Shantikarmas’ (rituals) performed in ‘Karamkand’ (prayers).
